Donna Karen

Born Donna Ivy Faske on October 2, 1948, in Forest Hills, New York. Donna Karen is one of the most successful and influential fashion designers in the world. Donna's early life was filled with fashion and beauty, Donna's mother was a model while her step father designed suits for a living. Donna had been obsessed with fashion since an early age and dropped out of school at 14 to sell clothing in a local boutique. In 1968 Donna was accepted into Parsons School of Design in New York City. While going to school Donna started to wok for the famous Ann Klein and was bumped up to associate designer just after two years of working for her , and at the age of 26 Donna was moved to head designer. after Ann Klein died, Donna decided to set off on her own and create a new line of modern day clothing. Donna's first women's collection came out in 1985. But Donna's first fashion line was not that cheap. So in 1998 Donna created DKNY(Donna Karen New York) which has men, women and children's clothes. Donna has won many fashion awards and is still an inspiring and creative designer today.

  1. Lauren,

This is a very interesting biography. I think it's cool how she dropped out of school but is still incredibly successful. I also think that it's cool that she doesn't just do women's fashion. If you ever started a business in fashion what type of clothing would you focus on the most?

    1. Grace,
I do agree she is really talented designer, I love her work. Too answer your question I think I would focus mostly on women and teens fashion. That has always been my favorite and I think it would be the most fun to work with!

  2. Lauren,

I love how you changed the background and the font. It looks really good but it is a little hard to read. My question is If you could work with any designer who would you work with and why?

    1. Thank you, I will change the background again. I will agree it is kind of hard to read. This is a really hard question for me! Well I kind of have two answers, I would work with Coco Chanel if she was still alive because she had some wonderful designs and in my opinion is like the queen of fashion. But if I had to work with someone who was still alive toady it wold either be Donna Karen or Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor. I have always loved Betsy's style but Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor are the founders of Juicy couture and I have always loved Juicy Couture.
